Club Update and training plans for the week of Saturday 25th February

Dear All

This weekend there are a couple of junior races taking place!  Good luck Ella and Henry Purcell in the Schools Cross Country event in Reading on Saturday morning… and then at 4pm on Calais Lane I will be hosting our own timed 1 mile and 2 mile junior cross country run!  We are meeting on the lane at 3.45pm for a warm up.. so if you have half an hour to spare please do come along and support the junior runners! (email emma@turniton.co.uk for more details).

The Trihard kit has arrived!  So please do email or visit Emma to pick up the lovely new TriHard colours ready for the 2017 season… And talking of the new season, well done Pete for entering the Cotswold Sprint on the 7th May! – As soon as the lake warms up I look forward to starting the swim training.  In the update next week there will be more information about how everyone can join the local sailing club ready to start your open water swim training!

Finally.. please read below the message from Jane Smiley at the Mulberrybush School charity:

I need riders for the London Surrey Bike Ride which is on the last Sunday in July. I thought that you might know people who would be keen to do this and might do it in aid of the vulnerable children at the Mulberry Bush?
Might you help?
Best wishes

Club Update and training Plans for the Week of Saturday 11th February

Happy Half Term and Happy Valentines Day to you all!

We are well into February now so I hope that those of you who have entered sprint Triathlons for April and May are starting to warm up into some training!  If you need any help or advice or motivation … please always do feel free to email me on emma@turniton.co.uk.

As ever the training plans are at the end of this News Letter… so do come along to any training sessions.

Big news this week is that the Abingdon Marathon is now open for entries.  I have entered… and places are still available but be aware that this marathon sells out very quickly so don’t delay to book yourself a place.  The marathon is a great one for beginners as it is flat and very well supported… I will choose an ideal training plan and publish a weekly training schedule for any one who fancies a go!

This will be a 16 week marathon training plan and will begin on Saturday 1st July! – SO LOADS OF TIME.  Between now and the 1st July all you need do is get yourselves a pair of running shoes and join us on our Weekly Saturday morning run!  If you are brand new to running join me on the “run for beginners” on Wednesday mornings to get started!  (See the training plans below)

http://www.abingdonmarathon.org.uk/

Well done Steve for helping at the West Oxfordshire Sailing Club’s Clean up day last Saturday.  There is another one next weekend on Saturday 18th Feb at 10am.

Finally, we will get a regular cycle group going as soon as the evenings are light enough… and I would like to propose that these happen on a Tuesday evening.  If others prefer a Monday then do let me know (email me on the address above!) as I’m happy to have two weekly sessions in the diary!

I propose that the Tuesday cycle session will meet at 7pm and cycle for approx 45mins – 1 hour.  We will always split into two small groups – a more ‘sportif’ pace and a slower traquil group! Evenings should be light enough to start this by the end of March!  So plenty of time to plan… and any thoughts on this are gladly received.

Your weekly article this week is for those really serious about running this year! (It’s a great read):
