Club Update and Training Plans for the week starting Saturday 29th April

Happy Bank holiday everyone!

It’s nearly May, which means it’s nearly Triathlon season – and it’s time to get excited.  The first open water Tri of the season is Sunday 7th May at the Cotswold Water Park – good luck Pete and all those planning an early bird dip in the lake!

Firstly Congratulations Steve who conquered the 105 mile sportif cycle up 4 different Whitehorse Hills last weekend…. and congratulations Sean who has gone for it and entered IRON MAN Zurich! – You are both amazing.

We have the events starting to come in thick and fast now – do check the event’s page on this website.  On the 7th May it is the Cotswold Super Sprint Triathlon (TriFerris)… also on the TriFerris website the September Cotswold Sprint is now also open for entries:

http://www.triferris.com/cotsuper/index.html

Also on the 7th May is the Blenheim 7k.  Don’t forget we have a team set up – so if you’d like to have a go please enter as part of the Lower Windrush TriHard Team when you buy your entry on line.

This is followed closely by the Banbury Triathlon on the 21st May and then the Westonbirt Tri on the 29th.  Blenheim Triathlon weekend is the 3rd June and then on the 4th June is the 113.

Training plans are detailed below – but now is the time to get into the open water and also to start the brick sessions (putting the bike/run together) – I will be organising a bike/run every Friday morning through May – hope you may be able to join me?  Jon is planning one this Saturday. (Check out the training plans below).  Please do email me on emma@turniton.co.uk if you would like any advice on getting started.

Most importantly – HUGE good luck to Kirsty (who is not doing the Super-sprint this year) because next week her baby is due.  We will all be thinking of you Kirsty and can’t wait to see pictures on Facebook.  No doubt we will see you back in a wet suit by September for the Cotswold Sprint.. and you’ll still beat us all!

For those entering the open water for the first time, check out the article below

Club Update and Training Plans for the week of Saturday 15th April

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

It’s a long update this week – so go and make a cup of tea, grab an Easter egg and sit down for a read through…

Firstly CONGRATULATIONS to the TriHard team who swam the Sportrelief Swimathon last week…

Swimming the full 5k (200 lengths) were Steve B, Celina, Andy T, Dave R, Celina, Sean and Wai. It’s a massive challenge, so well done for completing in style… and swimming for the juniors: Ella P swam 60 lengths solo whilst Harrison and Henry P swam 60 lengths in relay – a completely fabulous effort. Well done everyone.

Next big news is that the Cotswold Sprint Triathlon, SUNDAY 3rd Sept,  is open for entries… for those who  haven’t got a place already you can enter using the wed address below.  This is one of our favourites.. it’s an open water swim followed by a nice flat bike course and then a run round the Cotswold water park.  There is a novice distance available and relay team entries…. I do hope we can enter a big Lower Windrush Tri Club Team (enter the club name on the registration page)…. it’s a nice cheap event too, well marshalled and well organised.

Next is news of Celina’s big Saturday Plan! Celina is planning a TriHard day trip to Pen Y Fan – The highest peak in the Brecon Beacons National Park.  On Saturday 22 April (next weekend)  The plan is to leave Standlake at 3am (yes this is not a typo), so that we can be at the visitors centre for breakfast.  Email Celina if you would like to go so that car share can be arranged: celinaviner@hotmail.com

There is no Circuits this evening as it’s Good Friday – but Circuits will be  back to normal next week on Friday 21st April.

Finally – it’s great to see and hear that the lake swimming has begun in earnest!  It really is a beautiful lake and this year the course round the four white buoys is approx 700m.  Steve will confirm this in due course with all kinds of technology I’m sure.  As a group we have decided to arrange two regular slots for swimming: ON Wednesday mornings from 6.30am and on Sunday mornings from 8am (although some members may swim earlier on a Sunday).  These slots will appear each week on the training plans.

This week – because several members can’t swim on Easter Monday – there is also a Saturday morning 8am swim…. see our training plans at the end of this Club Update…

To swim you either need to be a member of the West Oxfordshire Sailing Club (and then you can swim as often as you like).. or you need to be signed in by a member.  You can be signed in three times before you would need to join up.

Extra Update after a great weekend

I couldn’t go on holiday without posting about the epic weekend.

WELL DONE everyone who took part in the Bicester Triathlon yesterday.  It was a fabulous day.

The juniors did brilliantly.  Ella P came 5th in her age group and Issy T completed her first ever Triathlon and finished in style.  They both worked so hard – the grit and determination showed on their faces at the end – it was fantastic.

Steve Bright won his Age group (despite getting a bit lost on the bike and only just recovering for a hand operation) starting with an awesome 7 and a half minute swim!  The Machine is back on form so we expect great things from him this season.

Andy Goff did AMAZINGLY in his first ever Triathlon – finishing with an incredible 24 minute run.  He was 19th in his age group – an incredible achievement.

Tilly and Sarah B both complete their first ever triathlon in style – both looking pretty impressive too.  Result aren’t out for their event yet – but it was a brilliant job – Well done ladies.

The day was topped off beautifully with a lovely swim in the lake at the West Oxon Sailing Club.  The water didn’t feel that cold and it was fab to be back in a lake again.

There is a plan for two regular swimming times going forward – 6.30am every Wednesday and 8am every Sunday morning.  We hope to see lots of you there. Once you are a member of the club you can swim any time (Jon has created a whatsAp group to coordinate more swims) – but in the first instance you can be signed in by a member a couple of times before you have to join!

Have a great week everyone
